On 16 September 2020 the government announced it was extending the moretorium on commercial evictions until the end of the year, in an effort to protect the high street, and allow businesses to rebuild over the autumn and Christmas period.
They are clear that businesses who can afford to pay their rent should continue to do so, but those who cannot afford it will be protected from eviction until the end of the year.
The government will also extend the restriction on landlords using Commercial Rents Arrears Recovery to enforce unpaid rent on commercial leases, until the end of the year.
It remains to be seen what the knock-on effect of this decision will have on landlords!
